Link

I was over on CS Harris' s blog and she lead me to a fantastic post here by Steve Malley about bad and lazy words in writing. Go read it and then examine your wip!

Liz, good link. I often think while I'm blogging of all the extraneous words I use. Hopefully in the WIP I will edit edit and edit them out.

There is a whole host of words that I edit out of my work when I do my first edit though "there" is not one of them.

Some of my list are: virtually, almost, very, but, some, eventuallly....can't remmber the others off had, but they are non-descriptive.

"There" is not one of them, and feel it's not a word I'm that worried about. If I took the advice of every writing tip I read,my voice would disappear. Just imagine how Jane Austen's work would differ if she wrote now!

Thanks for the link Liz.
I was a bit confused to see 'there' until I realised he meant only as 'place':-)

Good link, Liz. I'm addicted to 'besides' and 'anyway'. I put the search and delete on for these two after I've wriiten a book.

JJ, when I blog I don't think about words at all. I'm afraid I subject my blog readers to unedited thought and it probably shows.......my appologies all round.

Hi anonymous J. I like your list of words. i have found with each book I seem to have a favorite word that appears sooooo frequently but I hadn't thought of Steve's words before in that light either Lane.

I used anyway so much in the first novel that won't be mentioned Phillipa.

Rachel I love then :-)

Hi there Liz. Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting on my book cover. Glad you like it. Two rejections is nothing. Check out how many J K Rowling had, and George Orwell, TS Eliot, Arthur Miller.... and so on. The list is endless! Just keep on writing and don't ever be discouraged.
