Snowy's Arrives

I am sitting here awaiting the arrival of my sure to p--sed off cat. He's been in kennels in Heathrow for ten days and was on the overnight BA flight! He will not be well pleased to see me whenever he is delivered to the hotel today!

Living in a hotel apartment with him I know will be any endless challenge. In London he was a house cat. He hated it but lived with it. He tried to escape when he could. Freedom was his game all summer in Cornwall and it will take a year for the shrew population to recover. I am hoping that ten days in a confined space plus many hours in an even smaller one will make this two bedroom apartment seem palatial but I doubt it.

I know he will make a bid for freedom as soon as the door opens and it opens regularly even when I am not here. Hotel staff pop by to empty bins ect. They prop open the door while they do this! Therefore I have been having nightmares of rescuing Snowy from the atrium and the nice tent like structure they have erected for the Iftar! At least it will break his fall but it might startle the diners below!

Hugs and strokes to Snowy, Liz. As a thought, can you get something like a child-gate to go across the main apartment doorway? I know the little darlings jump, but it might slow him down long enough for you/the staff to get to the door.

A gate.......that might be the answer. I just spoke the kennels and they said he's fine and I should have him by one :-)

Oh poor snowy! My Elsa is upside-down on the desk right now, having given up on laying on my keyboard for the moment. I'm sure he'll be so happy to see you that he'll forget how annoyed he is :)

I wish I could believe that Lisa. He's given me the cold shoulder before!

dear Snowy - you must have missed him. On second thoughts you probably havent had time! hope all goes well. Cats usually adapt quite well, don't they, even if they make you Suffer first (and boy, do they!)

He's adapted before so I suppose he will again. The kennelas have called telling me what a lovely cat he is - translation he's all over them the tart! He will ignore me - just wait!

Welcome to Snowy - Liz, does he have to have quarantine when you go back to Cornwall or will he live in Dubain for a while now?

No more quarrentine but the cost to more him back and forth is prohibitive so he's here in Dubai until we depart.........

Liz - can I ask you a question about editing (I just noticed that you're on re-write 6). Are there different stages to your re-writes? e.g. In re-write one did you focus on plot and re-write two on language, re-write three on pace etc etc or is it more fluid than that and you work on everything in each re-write and tighten up your prose more and more each time?

I haven't even finished re-write 1 yet and I'm already thinking about the future. I'm nothing if not impatient!

Lane, Snowy is very much the globetrotter and he seems to be settling well and talking to me constantly. Clearly I'm missed a lot but no love and affection yet!

Cally, re editing. I have to do it in stages. I can't or am not experienced enough to do everything at once. So August Rock has been prose, pace, plot etc. Each time, I hope becoming tighter.

Right now I am begiing the first rewrite of ACH. Mostly this time for wordiness and sentence structure. The first draft was fast so there is much to clear up. While I am doing this I will flag up questions/problems. Before the next rewrite I will Donal Maass again and thin k of off to increase tension in the plot then tackle that next and so on.

As still unpublished I have luxury of trying to make these books the best they can and each draft I learn so much. I find already that I am carrying foreward the tools I developed in AG.

Gosh I have rambled on. BTW AG will have another rewrite soon :-)

Good luck with Snowy!

When I was travelling a lot, my two used to wait until I'd hauled my case in the door and then turn their backs in a Marked Manner. Then they'd sit there side by side, ignoring me. It usually took three days of smoked salmon and sleeping on my bed to get them speaking to me again.

I recommend bribery.

Jenny, it took about two hours before he decided to jump onto my lap! Currently he's sneezing and in bed with dd. I thinbk if the sneezing doesn't stop he's off to the vet in a day........

Smoked salmon, Snowy has never had any - at least not while I was looking :-)
