Rewrite Blues

You can see by the side bar that I am making some progress but it is slow - in fact, it is slow and painful. Why you ask, as I have been singing the praises of editing? Well, this edit is almost purely for language - ie sentence structure, unbelievable typos and just plain gobbledygook. These things have never been my strong point and never will be so right now the process is moving like treacle/molasses. I am hopeful that once I have cleaned the script up a bit it will make sense and I can have fun with it again......please

It's never been my strong point either, so I share your pain.

Best of luck, Liz. Does your spell-checker not underline your typos for you?

It does but some of my mistakes are beyond typos.......there their etc who as a dyslexic I don't spot and they are spelt correctly but not used correctly........the curse of writing quickly through the first draft to get the story out :-)

I never have fun with editing. I particularly hate those spots I skipped for some reason and now have to fill in. Good luck!

Thanks C.S. I have now come to one of those spots were I thought I'll work of this thread later!

You go Liz! Hopefully, you have another proofreader around who can provide you with a second pair of eyes :)

I openly admit that, once I have passed the text by spellchecker - and remembered to change to UK spelling, which has caught me out a couple of times- I ask my other half to proof read for spellings.
As you say - the word may be spelt correctly, but it is the WRONG WORD!in that context. Loose/lose. its'it's.
Especially if I have suddenly decided to change a name etc by search and replace.
And he always finds something truly horrible!
I do try to laught, but I am with you on this one. Hard going.
15 minute slots are handy.
Sure you can do it!

Thanks Lisa,Lane and Ray-Anne. I found a bit of a stide yesterday which helped.........and thankfully I have a friends who are helping with the proofing but I certainly couldn't give them the first draft!!!

The upside side is I am beginning to find a pattern to my mistakes and I can now tell when I was realy on a roll.....it tend to make the same mistakes when my brain and fingers are tying to work too quickly :-)

I'm one of those horrible people who LOVES editing. I think, "The hard work is done! The story's on paper so now all I have to do is tweak it!"

Yup, I are weird. :D
