The Wait

I have been pretty good about forgetting about my submission to the New Writers' Scheme of the RNA. I know that I sent it late -the last day of July. I know that I need to wait at least six weeks before expecting a response but I leave here next week and they kindly said they would try and have it back to me before I left..........So I have been pouncing on the post woman every morning and dreaming of reader reports every night. And you guys thought I was so cool about the whole thing!

I have also been thinking I should submit August Rock off to the three agents I have met before I go as submission will be trickier from Dubai.......but in my head I was waiting the have the report back to see if I had gone completely wrong on my rewrite. Do I sound like I am dithering? Yes, I know I am. Call it packingitis or something. Maybe if I write letters to agents then I won't have to pack up the house and put the boats away and , and , and.......

best of luck, Liz. I'm in a similar position re the NWS but of course not about to flee the country. You could always send the ms off to one agent and see....?

I might just do that.......thanks :-)

'Watch kettle, never boil' my old grandmother used to say. But then she said a lot of things which made little sense.
Waiting is agony. I tend to agree with flowerpot and would get the ms out there before you go.
Good luck with packing:))

Yes, I think between defrozing the freezer that began the process on its own? I will send out to agents and see what happens.......thanks Lasne and enjoy the lavender :-)

Liz - (()) on the waiting and the packing. Fingers crossed that the NWS will get back with good news before you go. Could you email your ms to some agents?

I know that one of the agents does take email submissions.......and the others it's the post so I guess I'll just do it and stop thinking about it :-) Thanks Biddy and Phillipa!

As if moving isn't stressful enough!
Good luck with everything Liz.

((Liz)) and remember that the NWS is simply one person's opinion. If it has things you can use, fine, if not -- then don't.

But waiting is hard...

I hate this feeling. The constant checking, checking, checking; it's practically debilitating. In fact, since I am currently hurry-up-and-waiting on some SS submissions I have out, I think I'll blog about this insanity and link back to this post (if that's okay with you).

As to moving. I grew up in a military family, never staying anywhere longer than two-three years. All I have to say is, one room. One room at a time.

Thanks Michelle. The report last year was really helpful and I'm hopeful that it will be again but I can't keep things on hold.

One room at a time......perfect thanks Rebecca. Of course you can link back :-)

It must be hard to be packing up when the weather seems to be improving, it's not been much of a Summer here either. Still lots of sun in Dubai. Go with your gut instinct on what to do with your ms. What have you got to lose if you do send it off now. Go for it and good luck.

Thanks Sheepish :-)

If it's not the NWS report, it will be agent's or editor's comments. Gnawing the nails to the quick is part of the writer's working life.

Normally, of course, I'd say start another book. But on this occasion, I think you have an alibi.

I always know at once if the comments are good - it's like touching a live wire.

In fact, I always used to block out the afternoon when I was having lunch with my first editor, the wondrous Jacqui Bianchi. No, not because I was going to be pickled as a rat. Because her comments always fired up my imagination and I would be raring to get at the keyboard.

Hope you get an NWS report like that.

I hope the report fires up the creative juices so to speak....I am desperate to start the next book but I know that realistically won't happen for a few weeks:-)

Thanks for stopping by!

Liz - thanks for the chat/help on Friday. You are a star. :)

I know I'm nowhere near that stage, Liz, but I do worry (procrastinating again, eh?) about sending from here... or getting someone you trust to send for you from there - but is there anyone you'd want to do it for you? Still, I should get writing again, and not worry.

Keep up the good work with the packing.
