Writers Think Too Much

I know that writers need to think to write but reading through fellow racers posts I realize sometimes we all think too much. We think about why we aren't writing. We think its all crap. We think we're crap. Now I know this is a generalization and some writers don't. They just get on the task of writing and I am going to try and do that today. Don't think - just write. I am going to leave the inner critic sitting in the sun while I get on with the serious task of putting this book onto the 'puter.

Of course I will not think about that lucky sod sitting lapping up the spring time sun shine. I will not. I promise.

I know I can think myself into self doubt or anything else for that matter. In fact I excel at it! But the upside is that I can think myself into my character's minds too :-)

Eek - that's exactly what my superivsor said in her email today, after spending weeks on this funding proposal thingy... I think it's a sign... a sign that I need to...

... er...

write!

p.s. Well done you - you're really cracking on with it AND finding time to leave comments :)

Liz, I agree with you 100%. I know for a fact that I think far too much about everything and anything!

Self-doubt can be killer. Kick it to the curb and get on with your life. (Sometimes easier said than done, to be sure.)

You're doing great, Liz. I've only done about a thousand words on my WIP in the past month or so. Give yourself a big hug (and a chocolate shake). =oD

Wisdom! Indeed. I am saying ditto to Jen ;-)

Thanks b.e. and Caoline. I am pleased with my progress. I had hoped for moe this week but life got in the way :-) I was just eflecting that sometimes we as writers over think things which on one hand is brilliant and the othe its slows us down when we turn that thinking process on ourselves!

Liz, I followed you over from B.E.'s blog...

Such good things going on here!

I've taken your meme challenge, btw--and am linking you up to my blog.

All good wishes for more productivity!
