Wow. Sitting on the sofa this morning suffering only slightly from an over indulgence of champagne and star struckedness (not a word but describes my state last night).

First I only took one photo...I was too busy people watching. There were around a thousand people mixing around the dinosaur skeleton in the Natural History Museum. By luck I found my agent,
Carole Blake, who knew everyone and was even mentioned in the speech by
Ian Rankin. He was lovely when I met latter and chatted about how he never shows anyone his first drafts because they are terrible and filled with things...go and get some lunch...I can't remember this character's name. I was really good to know that the gods write sh*tty first drafts too.

Julian Fellows in the crowd. Spoke with
Francesca Simon about her visit to the
Emirates Airlines Festival of Literature last year and
Anthony Horowitz joined in the conversation saying what a great festival it is. I caught up with friends..

I met more agents last night than I knew existed...
It was an amazing evening...after an amazing afternoon which was a private screening of
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Between the author party and the screening I wondered if I had dropped into someone else's life....

The private cinema was straight out of a film set with red leather seats and a screen bigger than the one in the Flroa Cinema in Helston....and it was all for me, well, me and about twenty other people. I hadn't read the book so didn't know what to expect (DH had read the book and he loved it).
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is now top on my TBR.

Without ruining the film...it was delightful and I loved it. I couldn't imagine how
Ewan McGregor could play a geek but it does so beautifully and believably.
Emily Blunt is perfect. I found myself laughing through most of the it. It's a film that lifted me like the
The Kings Speech did...it just has that wonderful feel good factor. Joy is the word that comes to mind.

The shoes to the left belong to the stunning Katherine Webb - she wears them despite the pain, which I think is admirable! Can't wait for the Salmon Fishing in the Yemen movie. Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt - what dream casting.
Julia - have added Katherine's name to her fab shoes. I have confess that I removed my shoes as i left the party and went home in my stocking feet!

Well done - you have worked hard to earn your place :-) Funnily enough, the last feel good movie I watched was Night in the Museum 2 (Ben Stiller) I watched it at home, on my own - children were not interested and DH was doing his Gajitman stuff. When the film finished, I insisted they all take time to watch it as it produced such a positive vibe. Not particularly literary, granted, but it did have many historical references and it made me laugh out loud. x

What a day, Liz! It sounds and looks amazing and I just love the picture of you and Essie together.
The last film that made me smile was The Artist which I saw a couple of weeks ago. It reminded me of Gene Kelly and watching black and white films on Sunday afternoons with my Dad and lots of other good things, plus it was a great feel-good film anyway. The kind you come out of, feeling like you want to dance down the street, all the way home.

I read Salmon Fishing In The Yemen for book club. I was a bit put off by the title, which is silly because I know good writers can write engagingly about all sorts of things (Louis Sachar's Cardturner?) But oh my goodness, what a wonderful book. I can't wait to see the film!
JJ - I'm reading it now and just loving it...it doesn't hurt that I have Ewan McGregor in my head as Fred :-)
