A Cornish Moon and Thinking Too Much

It was the the most amazing moon last night.....
But this morning as i sat down to my 'puter at six inspiration and exhilaration were gone - no words would come out...now is not right. My first drafts are dirty, dangerous and joyous....I looked at it and realized I'm trying to 'think' this one and it's stopped me dead. By trying not to write crap I ain't writing anything. Silly woman. Must write crap, must write crap, must write crap because only by writing crap will there be words on the page with which to carve out the story.

Hi Liz
That is the reason why I've had a lull in my writing. I'm trying to think of the story, whereas with Lies and Linguine, the characters told me what to type.
Perhaps, as you say, I should just write - and when it comes to editing, I might be in a more creative/productibe state of mind and improve it with a little tweaking!
Good luck with your writing.

I get really annoyed with people who say there's no such thing as writer's block. It just means they've never suffered from it.

It's also got something in common with trying to get pregnant. Too much pressure, and all the fun goes out of it...

Good luck!

That is an amazing picture.

I agree, you have to allow yourself to write crap. Good luck.x

Sounds trite, considering how hard we work to get a deal, but thinking too much is definitely an unfortunate side effect. That's part of the reason I'm writing my uncontracted 'Project B' - to try and get over the thinking thing but its SO hard to turn your brain off and not think about readers, agents, expectations and m own sense of perfectionism. Best advice I can give you in to put heahoes on, flood your ears with classical music and avea glass of wine ( but jus the one!) to oil the cogs!

Thank you all...I can happily report that I forgot thinking and just wrote this morning and 1000 words in less than an hour...they may be crap but I can edit crap - not easy but doable :-)

Chris - thanks

Ange - give it a try

Cat - hugs

Francis - there is a lot of pressure which does take the joy out...

Thanks Debs

Cally - this book I'm working on is just for me at the mo - I'm in between edits. Good luck with yours...
