Another One Bites the Dust

Well the title could apply to two things - the Christmas letter is done and dusted soon to be winging its way around the world late. It is a huge relief. This was a year so full and with the current uncertainty in our lives - it was a hard letter to get right. However it is done - Yay.

Now the other thing that bit the dust was I heard back from the agent that requested more and as I suspected - it wasn't for them. So I still have one sub out there and will send out two more while I am in Cornwall for Christmas. To be honest I am so done with August Rock and just want to move on. I am desperate to write the new story in my head. I don't think I will make myself wait until I have finished the edit of A Cornish House. I really feel the need to move forward.

Speaking of that I rashly said to the dh we should have a Christmas drinks party to force us to finish the house! No I wasn't under the influence at the time I suggested it. He thought a great idea - well he would! So for my sins I am having thirty-five people for drinks on Friday evening! Is the house 'finished' you ask? Hell no. The cupboards are full but not in the right place however my sitting room looks beautiful. I am mad - certififably mad. I leave in a few days for the UK! Mad as a hatter!

Liz, I shall be thinking of you on Friday when we have 70 people in the condo for Husband's team xmas party! Husband is pretty much doing it all, since I am focussed on panicking...

All the best for your 'do'.

((((Liz)))) there's a hug for the rejection - I know you mostly take them in your stride, but it's still a downer. I think you're absolutely right that you need to get more subs out there, however Carole Blake in 'From Pitch To Publication' says don't send any submissions in the run-up to Xmas (very busy time) or first couple of weeks in Jan (agents catching up with backlog after the holiday). On that basis, I sent a couple out on 26th Nov and will not be sending any more until 14th Jan. Anyway, it sounds as if you have enough to do, you crazy woman!!!

((hugs)) re the rejection

As for the rest - if the sitting room looks beautiful and the bathroom is clean and there are bottles on the table, what more could anyone want?

And hey, you can pack in your sleep by now, can't you?

Hugs on the R but onwards and upwards. You'll find the person that'll be great for you.

((on the R)) and fingers crossed for better news. I also think you're right to move on to your new project which seems to be capturing your imagination. I'm in awe at your drinks party. We had 40 people for the WYWH launch in September but I cheated by having local deli bring hot food round to the house! It was also a LOT colder than Dubai.

I'm so sorry about the rejection Liz - as you know I've just had one as well so can really sympathise. Hope to meet up this time! Take care and good journey.

Sorry about the rejection but look on the bright side at least you have finished something to be rejected!!!
And I agree forget about sending out anymore subs now, enjoy friday and don't worry about the house not being perfect, people come to enjoy your company not your house.

*hug* for the rejection even though we all get used to them.

Sorry, can't spell so had to delete and re-post.

Liz, I'm sure the party will be fab, just make sure you don't get too stressed by it all and remember to enjoy yourself. I find glugging Rescue Remedy in the lead-up to such things wonderful not least because it tastes a teensy bit like sherry!

Commiserations on the rejection but as Nell said you'll find the right person. I also agree with Phillipa about cracking on with the new project especially if you're fit to burst with ideas if you do not.

Oh, Liz. I am sorry about the rejection. I sympathise, empathise, and all of that. Fingers crossed for the other sub. A large drinks party sounds like just the sort of thing to do in these circumstances!

Finished or not, I'm sure it will be festive and fun!

And sorry to hear about the pass on your work--it's only one opinion. I think it's great that you're so excited and enthused to move on. Great attitude!

I'm told that for truly professional writers rejections don't hurt a bit. I don't believe that for a second, mind, but I get told that a lot. Having been a pretty bad actor and having written scores of yet-to-be-published short stories, I am very used to rejection. Stings every time. But pick up and move forward.

I very cleverly ensured we will not be entertaining this season by removing the floor. Well, okay, just the wall-to-wall carpet. I will be putting down a wood floor. Soon. Or perhaps eventually is a more accurate descriptor. Meanwhile we wear thick socks while walking on concrete. (And, after creating a few voids in our china, I've invested in a set of plastic plates for the duration.)

Thank you one and all. You made me smile and laugh ( thanks Kevin). Good advice Zinnia - will do just that as I have enough on my plate or at least to organize enough for tomorrow!

You are so right Jan - clean sittingroom and bathroom and loads of drink! :-)
