Link and Short Stories

I'm over at the lovely Rebecca Leith's blog here.

I wrestling with another short story at the moment...the word count on this one isn't so restrictive - 1500-5000 but it's still a challenge. I envy those who can work this form with ease...but I am sure that it's a good exercise.

Which do you prefer to write or read - novels or short stories?

I love both. Sometimes - when there's a lot of Life about and time is limited - I love being absorbed in a short story and then getting on with other Stuff. But if I've time and headspace to savour a novel, then it's time to curl up with a tome. So I don't see it as either/or - rather which genre is right at the time.

JO - sounds a perfect plan!

I generally prefer novels to short stories as there's room for more development in character and plot in a novel, but the short stories in 'Loves Me Loves Me Not' bucked my trend - I thought they were great fun.

Agree with you Liz on Loves me Loves Me Not....and on character development - especially as a writer...

I prefer reading novels but in fact am reading a book of short stories at the moment - depends on time available!

Finally getting back to reading your blog and what a great question! I am a keen fan of both and I'm sure we'll have lots to talk about when we meet up in Penzance! xxcat
