Two things have brought this to mind...my best friend asked me a little while what was my best Christmas present ever??? After little thought I knew exactly what it was...in 2006 my family gave me a lap top - of my own. I wept. I still tear-up thinking about it. Money was tight, but they believed in me enough to give me the tool to reach my dreams. They also wanted me off the family computer too but we won't go into the motivation.
Now the second thing making think about this is Cally Taylor's new book HOME FOR CHRISTMAS is out and it looks like a delicious read...

'Beth Prince has always loved fairytales and now, aged twenty-four, she feels like she's finally on the verge of her own happily ever after. She lives by the seaside, works in the Picturebox - a charming but rundown independent cinema - and has a boyfriend who's so debonair and charming she can't believe her luck! There's just one problem - none of her boyfriends have ever told her they love her and it doesn't look like Aiden's going to say it any time soon. Desperate to hear 'I love you' for the first time Beth takes matters into her own hands - and instantly wishes she hadn't.
Just when it seems like her luck can't get any worse, bad news arrives in the devilishly handsome shape of Matt Jones. Matt is the regional director of a multiplex cinema and he's determined to get his hands on the Picturebox by Christmas. Can Beth keep her job, her man and her home or is her romantic-comedy life about to turn into a disaster movie?
I definitely want to find this in my stocking....Santa you can order it here

I can still remember getting my first computer when I was about 26 - before that I was typing short stories onto a typewriter then staying late at work to type them onto a PC and email them to markets. It's a big moment for a writer! Thanks for joining my blog launch, Liz
My father (88) has just been given an iPad. He is like a small child in a giant sweet shop who has been told he can have whatever he likes - until now he has never done an internet search.
The book sounds fun!
Cally - I wrote my first 'novel' on my mother's old typewriter (you know the old black ones you see in old films!) Thankfully those pieces have been lost in the mists of time. It's a pleasure to be part of your block launch...can wait to read the book!
Cat - that is magic. iPads are perfect for older people because of the variable font size (that includes me...when I'm tired and reading on mine I just increase the size and it's brilliant). I also think it's great the whole new world that has opened up for him. Brilliant! And yes, the book sounds great - a perfect holiday read.

I remember my mum upgrading my typewriter to an electronic typewriter one Christmas. I thought it was great as you could (almost) delete your words - no more tippex for me!
Mama J...I remember the joy of using the IBM selectrix (? spelling) just backspace and it did the white out for you...memories :-) Thanks for stopping by.

Just had an email from Amazon to say Cally's book is on its way. Very excited. Can't wait to read it!
Scarlet - it looks like such a brilliant read...may amazon bring mine soon!

Third go at leaving a message... silly Blogger.
What a lovely gift. My first typewriter was an electric Brother which I loved because I was a rubbish typist until I learned formally. My first computer was an Amstrad - it's suggestions for spelling corrections were hilarious.
How exciting, Liz.
I love the cover of your book. I can just imagine your excitement at seeing your story in the form a real book - something you can hold, stroke, smell, that others can read. Wonderful. I can't wait to read it.
I, too, wrote my first book on an old typewriter, tippex paper at my side. After that, life with a laptop doesn't get much better.
Enjoy every stage of your well deserved success.
